what if you could walk into a book?
The Rabbit hOle constructed its first full-scale prototype for an immersive storybook experience in a 4,000 square foot temporary space located in the Crossroads at 400 E. 17th St. The exhibit featured Jon Agee’s beloved picture book classic, The Incredible Painting of Felix Clousseau. Visitors walked into the world of 19th century Paris where an unknown artist enters the Palace’s Grand Contest of Art and set off a chain of bizarre and mysterious events. The story unfolded in a densely entertaining environment— part interactive art installation, part narrative journey, part jungle gym, and part traditional gallery (featuring original art from the book)! This fully programmed prototype served demonstrate a key component of the Rabbit hOle’s larger vision to create a national center for the children’s book here in KC.
