HOME OF THE HOLE
In February 2018, with help from the Sherman Family Foundation, The Rabbit hOle purchased a 165,000 square foot building in North Kansas City. In addition to its affordability, location and overall accessibility, the property is a perfect fit for the project in terms of our initial needs and anticipated growth patterns.
The Rabbit hOle will open with space activated in the basement and first two floors (approx. 80,000 sq/ft). These areas will house the Explor-a-Storium, a cafe, and an immersive gallery. In support of the Explor-a-Storium, The Rabbit hOle will also house a printshop, a story lab, a bookstore, a makerspace, a resource library and reading room, and a gallery of original picture book art.
In May 2019, we completed construction of a fully equipped fabrication shop and design studio on the back of our building (RAB FAB) where we are already busy designing and producing exhibits for the world's first Explor-a-Storium. The RAB FAB will create new exhibits in perpetuity as we grow into the building’s third and fourth floors. There will always be something new for visitors to see and experience upon their return, and return traffic is the key to every museum’s success.
THE BOOK STORE
The industrial area of North Kansas City is rapidly becoming a natural extension of downtown Kansas City and a cutting-edge destination for new development. As a national destination and the first major cultural institution north of the river, The Rabbit hOle itself will not only benefit from, but help to advance current growth in the area.
