BOOKSTORE MANAGER
Job Summary
The Rabbit hOle is seeking an experienced individual with a deep knowledge and historical understanding of children’s literature to join a growing team of artists and administrative staff as the museum’s Bookstore Manager. The Bookstore Manager will oversee, manage and help curate The Lucky Rabbit, a vibrant bookselling experience that will include robust family and community programming, and an ongoing schedule of special events. This is a full-time position with benefits and a unique opportunity for a well-read, team-oriented individual to help build a national institution.
Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day operations of the bookstore.
Oversee and maintain the store’s inventory - including ordering and receiving new items, shelving, and processing returns.
Work with Directors and designated staff to develop, manage and implement store programming and special events.
Manage and maintain book inventory and ordering systems.
Work with Directors to hire and train new bookstore staff.
Supervise, support and manage bookstore staff.
Maintain and monitor security controls.
Monitor daily and weekly sales and general cash flow.
Work with designated staff to analyze sales reports, meet existing budget goals and develop new budgets.
Maintain quality customer service throughout the store.
Maintain a commitment to a strong community presence.
Maintain and grow relationships with wholesalers and distributors, and establish new relationships as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• A deep knowledge and historical understanding of children’s literature, both contemporary and classic
• 3-5 years of professional bookstore management experience.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills with expertise in industry ordering and inventory software.
• Strong accounting knowledge and reporting skills.
• A sense of humor
• A Bachelor’s degree
