Full-Time Baker at Max’s Kansas City, inside The Rabbit hOle
Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Full-Time or Part-Time Baker to join our Cafe staff. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of professional baking experience and a passion for creating imaginative and high-quality baked goods. The Baker will be responsible for preparing and baking a variety of products, ensuring consistency and quality while adhering to established recipes and procedures. This role requires attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Max’s Kansas City is a cafe situated inside The Rabbit hOle, the first ever museum dedicated to children’s literature. All the menu items on offer are derived from the exhibits on display in the Museum.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and bake a wide range of baked goods, including bread, pastries, cakes, cookies, and other specialty items.

  • Follow recipes and production schedules to ensure consistency and quality of products.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in baking science to adjust or modify recipes to meet production goals.

  • Operate and maintain baking equipment, including mixers, ovens, etc; ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.

  • Decorate and finish baked goods according to established standards, including icing, glazing, and garnishing.

  • Inspect finished products for quality, consistency, and presentation before displaying for sale.

  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, including proper storage, handling, and disposal of ingredients and products.

  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to coordinate production schedules and ensure timely delivery of baked goods.

  • Assist with recipe development, testing, and menu planning as needed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including workstations, storage areas, and equipment.

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

Requirements

3-5 years of professional baking experience in a commercial kitchen or bakery setting.

Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.

Ability to follow recipes and production schedules accurately.

Strong attention to detail and quality standards.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Ability to work effectively in a time-sensitive environment, both independently and as part of a team.

Flexibility to work early mornings, and weekends as needed.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Food safety certification is required.

Physical ability to lift and carry heavy bags of flour and other ingredients, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

Formal culinary or baking education is preferred.
