Elmer’s Journey with Lisa Von Drasek
Fri 5/15, 5:30 - 7:30
A Special Evening for Educator Members
Ages 21+

Join us for a special event with Lisa Von Drasek, Curator of the University of Minnesota’s Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature. This evening will be a celebration of our first-ever Discovery Gallery exhibit, My Mother’s Father's Dragon: A Hero’s Journey and The Art of Living, which featured original illustrations on-loan from the Kerlan Collection. The evening will include a presentation with Von Drasek on progressive education and Elmer’s Journey.
Formerly the Children's Librarian of the Bank Street College of Education, Von Drasek was the teacher and librarian for pre-k through 8th grade as well as a teacher of Children's Literature, Storytelling, and Children's Book Publishing 101 to students in the graduate school of education. She has served as a juror on the Caldecott Committee, The New York Times Best Illustrated, the Newbery Committee, The Ezra Jack Keats Award, Trudi Birger Prize (Jerusalem Book Fair) National Book Awards for Young People's Literature, and American Library Association's Notable Children's Books.
The Rabbit hOle’s Discovery Gallery was designed to showcase original children’s book art. This exhibit brings together original lithographs from the book My Father’s Dragon, immersive environments, and a personal window into the extraordinary lives of Ruth Stiles Gannett and her stepmother Ruth Chrisman Gannett.
This event is free of charge for our Rabbit hOle educator members. Registration includes a ticket for a plus one, drink tickets, and one My Father’s Dragon custom tote bag with a limited edition print, air freshener, and a free two-person pass to the museum to use at a later date.
