Hurd, who was born January 12, 1908, created more than 100 books during his career.

The evening will feature Barnett and Ellis in conversation, a presentation and reading, a Q&A, and a book signing. Each individual ticket purchase for this 21+ event includes a copy of Rumpelstiltskin and one drink ticket.

The Legend of Old Befana: An Italian Christmas Story is based on a tradition of a witch who flies on her broomstick to deliver gifts to children just before Epiphany (January 6).

One of our biggest accomplishments of 2025 was opening our cover-to-cover experience of The Three Robbers by @tomiungerer. 💙

As you can see in the making of video (now at YouTube.com/@rabbitholekc, link in bio) there was a lot that went into building it.

The good news, we've extended The Three Robbers through next summer!

Ungerer's work is beloved around the world, and we look forward to sharing it with international visitors coming to Kansas City for the World Cup.

We’re planning a few more collaborations for our Reading is Resistance print series for early next year, and in the spring we’ll have a new theme for creators to respond to.

On Saturday we were honored host a special event with Jordan Morris, Charlie Mylie, and their friend RAT SANTA!

Their latest collaboration, Merry Mittens, is a heartwarming holiday tale about four cats and one star-stealing rat.

We sang kitten carols, Rat Santa gave each child something odd from his trash sack (sorry friend who seems less than thrilled about his soccer ball stamp), and made Merry Mittens ornaments.

Thanks to our special guests and everyone who joined us. 😻

“I wanted to do something that is a bit more Tomi Ungerer-inspired. So I found a book of his poster art. Looking at everything and thinking about how direct action his posters were. He really didn’t mince words, he just went straight to imagery that was very provocative. Throughout his life, he had a special connection to birds beginning with the hundred or so he recalled his father keeping in their apartment while Ashley was growing up.
